Self-Reflection: Did I/See you/See me?

Posted by
Jeremy (Ridgedale, United States) on 20 June 2013 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

Considering the flurry of self-portraits, I thought I would contribute something from a few years ago.

The xx - Reunion seems to go well with it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea8-EN0RCYw

I'm an amateur photographer who's a writer by trade. So I enjoy photography that suggests a narrative. I welcome all constructive criticism as I'm looking to improve. Thanks for viewing my photos!

Basile Pesso from Barcelona, Spain

Wonderfully clever and very well exposed. Reflecting into an eye of nature, with a superb blue.
The XX, I'll be back to listen to them.

@Basile Pesso: Really appreciate it Basile! Hope you enjoy the song too.

Abena from Illinois, United States

I love your play with words. I enjoy listening to the xx and enjoy the link you put up too, listen to crystalised if you haven't already :) I actually think this is a great portrait- the way the water seems to outline the rock in the 'eye' form, the tree branches and your reflection are excellent and it's pretty well seen too! I really like the way the darkness of the water plays around with the edge of the rock, it's pretty much like an eye. Great!

@Abena: Thanks, Abena! Yeah, I'm pretty lovestruck with the xx, so I'm familiar with crystalised. I appreciate the detailed response!!

Sharon Pleasants from Monroe, Louisiana, United States

Very artistic, Jeremy! Excellent use of the reflective water. The shape was a great find!

@Sharon Pleasants: Yep, sometimes you just stumble onto things. I think this was at Lost Valley actually.

Regina G. Santaella from Cancún, Mexico

I'm really impressed by this portrait Jeremy, it's very creative and I love everything about it. I'm extremely attracted to the variety of shapes and colours, subtle but playing quite an important role in the whole scene. In a way, the water almost loses its identity, creating a completely different image on its surface.

21 Jun 2013 3:14am

@Regina G. Santaella: Yeah, I like how you say the water loses its identity. I think that's the intriguing thing about reflections; whatever's doing the reflection takes on the image of something else. Maybe a bit of sleight of hand.

Ludovic Roudet from Charenton-le-Pont, France

Great composition, perfectly framed. The reflections on this "textured" water are splendid.

@Ludovic Roudet: Much appreciated!!

L'angevine from Angers, France
